Changing Your Generators Oil

Generator Oil Change & Maintenance

We bet you’re wondering, when is the best time to change the oil on a newly installed generator? Thankfully, we have the answer!

A new generator contains mineral oil which should be swapped out for synthetic oil after one month or after a total of 20 hours in use, whichever comes first. Following the initial change to synthetic oil, the oil should be changed in your generator every 200 hours after or at least once a year, whichever comes first. It is important to change your generator oil to maintain quality performance in times of need.

Overall, synthetic oils outperform mineral oils because they offer more protection and quality performance. Mineral oils are thicker and move slower which makes the engine less efficient. Synthetic oils move much quicker which helps the generator operate more efficiently and reduces oil consumption. Also, synthetic oil lubricates the engine causing less friction and without as much friction it causes the generator to run at a cooler temperature preventing overheating or malfunction.
